Monogramming is the process of stylized marking of a special item with an individual’s initials. At the Embroidery Studio we do monogramming of one or two letters, but the three-letter combination is considered standard. In the past we have monogrammed towels, robes, and a wide variety other items utilizing a large choice of fonts, colors, and sizes.
Monogramming began to flourish with language and writing. Wealthy families wanted to protect and identify their possessions and asked their artisans and craftsman to place their initials on the furniture or clothing being created. It was the artists that began to use a special monogram to identify their art work and it was the craftsman that added flair and style to furniture. Eventually monogramming evolved to become art and it added value to items that were no longer ordinary, as well as identifying the owner of the item. Embroidered lettering became especially popular in becoming secret code for special messages in times of persecution and monogramming was used as a special way to convey a thought or idea in middle age badges, banners and heraldic work for the church, state and family.
